Elon Musk and other members of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) sat down for their Fox News interview with Bret Baier on Thursday evening. The wide-ranging interaction circled back to the Social Security issue, especially considering how Donald Trump’s “First Buddy” previously levelled heavy claims about “fraud.”

With the Tesla billionaire heading the charge behind major DOGE decisions related staggering federal cuts, his views on Social Security have especially drawn the ire of some fellow Republicans, Democrats and concerned citizens alike.

While the elderly and disabled severely rely on government programs to sustain themselves, Musk’s had insisted on a so-called widespread Social Security fraud without providing any solid evidence.

Elon Musk on Social Security fraud

This time, he doubled down on the critical matter, claiming that Social Security benefits often go to “some fraudster and that “this happens all day, every day.” As another DOGE member alleged that a whopping 40% of call to Social Security are from “fraudsters,” Musk chimed in, “They steal people’s Social Security.”

He went on, “They claim to be a retiree, and they convince the Social Security on the phone to change where the money is flowing. It actually goes to some fraudster.”

Amid intense scrutiny being directed at Elon Musk and DOGE, Aram Moghaddassi, a software engineer with the agency, explained during the Bret Baier Fox interview that their aim is to improve Social Security. He also noted that they hoped to achieve the same by: “Helping people legitimately get benefits” and “protecting them from fraud that they experience on a routine basis.”

Musk also emphasised that DOGE’s work would ensure “the legitimate recipients of Social Security… receive more money, not less money.”

Earlier this month, the Space X CEO slammed Social Security as “biggest Ponzi scheme of all time.” During the March 10 interview with Fox Business, he said, “[Federal entitlements] is also a mechanism by which Democrats attract and retain illegal immigrants, by essentially paying them. If we turn off this gigantic money magnet for illegal immigrants, then they will leave.”

Elon Musk, DOGE’s ‘unbridled access’ to Social Security private data blocked

Last week, U.S. District Judge Ellen Lipton Hollander of Maryland ordered to ordered to halt the Social Security Administration (SSA) sharing data with Elon Musk’s aides. The SSA has since been accused of possibly violating privacy laws by giving the tech titan “unbridled access” to the data of millions of Americans, according to Reuters.

The federal judge said that Musk’s DOGE was intruding into “the personal affairs of millions of Americans” while attempting to hunt for fraud under the Donald Trump administration. She said earlier that day, “To be sure, rooting out possible fraud, waste, and mismanagement in the SSA is in the public interest. But, that does not mean that the government can flout the law to do so.”

Consequently, the acting head of the SSA, Leland Dudek – who has been working with DOGE – said that the blocking order so broad that it could apply to all staff, according to Bloomberg. “My anti-fraud team would be DOGE affiliates. My IT staff would be DOGE affiliate,” Dudek stated. “As it stands, I will follow it exactly and terminate access by all SSA employees to our IT systems.”
