Edinburgh Airport confirmed the resumption of flights on Thursday following a major IT issue that brought all operations to a standstill earlier in the day. The disruption affected dozens of flights and left thousands of passengers stranded at Scotland’s busiest airport.

Flights Resume After IT Issue

The Airport authorities confirmed the restoration on social media, saying, “Flights have now resumed following the IT issue with our traffic controller provider.”

“We thank passengers for their patience and understanding,” the statement added, as reported by the BBC.

Earlier, the airport had halted all flights due to the IT problem. “Due to an IT issue with our air traffic control provider, no flights are currently operating from Edinburgh Airport. Teams are working on the issue and will resolve it as soon as possible,” a spokesperson had said.

‘We will provide updates when possible – please contact your airline for the latest information on your flight,” the spokesperson added.

Travel Disruptions Across Scotland

The glitch also impacted Edinburgh Trams, which took to X to inform passengers: “If you’re travelling with us to @EDI_Airport this morning, please be aware that flights are not currently operating.”

On an average day, around 43,000 passengers use Edinburgh Airport, which hosts 37 airlines flying to 155 destinations. The sudden halt in operations caused widespread delays and highlighted the reliance of airport systems on IT infrastructure.

As of Thursday afternoon, normal operations had resumed, with airport teams continuing to monitor systems to prevent further disruptions.
