A strong earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale hit the eastern coast of Honshu, Japan, on Thursday, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre said, reported Reuters. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 32 kilometers (approximately 19.88 miles), according to the EMSC.
Taiwan was on Wednesday hit with a massive earthquake which is considered to be one of the major earthquakes to have hit the country in the last 25 years. The casualties, all in Hualien, include four victims in Taroko Gorge, two near the Dachingshui and Huide tunnels, one in a residential building in Hualien City, and one in the Hejen mining area, mostly due to rockfalls.In Hualien city, where rescuers finished saving people trapped in buildings, some people chose to sleep outside because there were many aftershocks. According to CNA, the nine deceased individuals include five women and four men, based on available data as of 10:00 pm on Wednesday.
