Donald Trump‘s new golf course was put on lockdown after reports of a suspicious package, according to multiple media reports. According to The Herald, locals in the nearby houses were evacuated.
Police Scotland briefly sealed off an entrance to the Menie Estate in Aberdeenshire as officers carried out precautionary checks. The Herald further reported that President Trump remained inside MacLeod House on the estate during the incident.
The security cordon has now been lifted. In a statement, Police Scotland confirmed, “This search has been completed, there was no criminality and the cordon has been removed.”
The measure was described as a routine safety check, with officials stressing that no threat was identified.
The incident occurred on the same day Trump officially opened The New Course at his Aberdeenshire golf resort. Addressing the crowd, he remarked he would play a quick round before heading back to Washington to “put out fires all over the world”.
The event was attended by local golfers as well as the Scottish First Minister and Scottish Labour leader.
