Bangladesh is grappling with severe instability as former PM Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country due to escalating student protests against the quota system. According to sources, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Bangladesh’s largest political party, has announced that Professor Salimullah Khan, a distinguished Bangladeshi writer and academic, will head the interim government. Representatives from the party attended the crucial meeting with the Army Chief.

Who is Professor Salimullah Khan?

Salimullah Khan, born on August 18, 1958, is a prominent public intellectual known for his analysis of national and international politics and culture through Marxist and Lacanian theories. He is regarded as one of Bangladesh’s leading intellectuals.

The interim government will also include notable figures such as Justice (Rtd.) Md. Abdul Wahhab Miah, General (Rtd.) Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan, Major General (Rtd.) Syed Iftekhar Uddin, Dr. Debapriya Bhattacharya, Matiur Rahman Chowdhury, Brigadier General (Rtd.) M Sakhawat Hossain, Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman, and Justice (Rtd.) M A Matin.
