In Bahrain Harbour, two British Royal Navy mine-hunter vessels were involved in a collision, said the Royal Navy. Luckily, no one was injured in the accident which occurred on Friday, it said. An inquiry into the incident has been opened.
On social media, a video clip showed one boat (the HMS Chiddingfold) reversing into another (HMS Bangor) which was moored. The collision caused a loud crashing noise.
Royal Navy’s Commander Operations, Rear Admiral Edward Ahlgren informed on X that nobody was injured but some damage was sustained.
“I assure you that a full and thorough investigation is already underway and any changes in procedure that could prevent further incidents will be rapidly implemented,” he said.
“In the meantime, the UK will continue to play a key part in ensuring the safety of merchant shipping in the region,” he added.
The United Kingdom’s Royal Navy is working with the Navy of the USA in the Gulf region. Forces are working together to protect ships in the Red Sea from an upsurge in attacks by Houthi forces based in Yemen.
The Houthis declare that they are acting in solidarity with the Palestinian group Hamas, which is locked in conflict with Israel in Gaza.
On the global level, the attacks have disrupted trade and raised fears of supply bottlenecks.
