US President Donald Trump’s approval rating remained steady over the past week, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released Tuesday. The survey found that 44% of respondents approved of his performance over his first month in office.
Americans’ attitudes toward Trump showed little change even as he dismissed tens of thousands of federal workers and reshaped US policy on the Ukraine-Russia war. The poll found that 50% disapproved of his job performance, down slightly from 51% the previous week.
Trump’s approval rating so far has been higher than for most of his first term from 2017 to 2021 and higher than his predecessor, Democrat Joe Biden, during his four-year tenure.
The online poll, conducted Friday through Sunday with 1,029 US adults, also found that 50% supported Trump’s approach to immigration, up from 47% the previous week, while 42% opposed his immigration policies.
On other key issues, public opinion remained relatively unchanged. About 41% of respondents approved of Trump’s handling of the economy, and 34% approved of his approach to the cost of living.
Additionally, 38% of those surveyed held a favourable view of tech billionaire Elon Musk, who is playing a key role in Trump’s government overhaul efforts, while 57% viewed him unfavourably.
