An Indian man was recently assaulted by a drunk stranger in Canada — with videos of the incident soon going viral. The incident took place at a Tim Hortons outlet in Toronto after the aggressor threw his phone down and the Indian man picked up the device. Visuals shared online showed the Indian being shoved repeatedly and grabbed by his clothes as the drunk local accused him of “acting superior”.
“You might get yourself in trouble” the purported Indian can be heard saying.
“Did you say that to me? What did you just say to me?” the Canadian man garbed in a sports jacket can be heard saying repeatedly.
The disturbing video shows the aggressor shoving the Indian man into a wall and resting his forearm against the latter’s neck. His victim did not retaliate — appearing only to defend himself and try to defuse the situation.
“A shocking video has surfaced showing a drunk Canadian man attacking an Indian man simply because he believes the Indian is acting superior. Until Indians abroad stand up to bullies like this, they will be run over again and again and remain easy targets. Don’t let fear silence you. STAND UP!” the X video caption urged.
Xenophobia floods comment section
The post has sparked heated discussion with many on X calling it ‘unacceptable’ behaviour. Others opted to lash out at the Indian man for failing to push back and stand up for himself. Many in the comment section also opted for racism — urging Indians to “go back to their own country” and levelling slurs at immigrants.
“Canada one of the most immigrant friendly countries 10 years with 7%+ Indian has become racist towards us Canada made a major mistake by lowering immigration standards which led to a massive Immigration from Rural Punjab They disregard laws, break laws but everyone suffers,” claimed one X user.
“This is still unacceptable. And I agree we have an immigration problem, but this type of behavior is pathetic,” added a second.
“Is that how Canada operates these days? Where are the cops? Anyone who puts their hands on someone else first needs to be charged, regardless of who it is. The guy not responding was very smart for not reacting. I hope he filed charges. And what’s with the business-employee saying “take it outside”? What kind of business manager/employee does that?” fumed another.
