It started when fans started to notice his username under the account. In no time, the internet was abuzz with speculations and rumours about the player. Some users even brought up his wife and actor, Anushka Sharma and discussed about trouble in their marriage.

A screenshot of the story he posted on his Instagram went viral and netizens took it to another scale. The post on Instagram read, “I’d like to clarify that while clearing my feed, it appears the algorithm may have mistakenly registered an interaction. There was absolutely no intent behind it. I request that no unnecessary assumptions be made. Thank you for your understanding.”

Reaching the popular anonymous social media site, Reddit, users shared memes and discussed the incident at length. A user commented that the story “made it much worse for him”. Some speculated as to why the post was made and claimed that it was because of the pressure from media houses and exaggerated claims of “cheating” made online.
