A couple bought a Mahindra Thar from a showroom in Delhi’s Nirman Vihar. After the purchase, they sat inside the SUV along with a showroom employee to perform a “nimbu ritual” – a practice where you crush a lemon under a vehicle’s tyre to ward off evil eye. However, while attempting the ritual, the car owner accidentally pressed the accelerator, causing the SUV to burst through the glass façade on the showroom’s first floor and crash onto the pavement below.

The incident took place at around 5 pm on Monday, and fortunately, no injuries have been reported.

“On Monday at about 6.08 pm, the medico-legal case (MLC) of Maani Pawar, resident of Indirapuram in Ghaziabad, was received from Malik Hospital in Nirman Vihar. On enquiry, it was found that Pawar and her husband Pradeep purchased a Thar Rox car from a Mahindra showroom situated at Nirman Vihar,” DCP (East) Abhishek Dhania said.

Aside from damage to the Thar itself, only a motorcycle parked nearby was harmed. Police confirmed that no formal complaints have been filed regarding the incident.

What does the viral video show?

The now-viral video shows Thar upside down on the pavement, with glass shattered all around. Soon after the incident, a crowd gathered around the scene, recording the aftermath on their phones. One frame shows a woman standing nearby, staring at the overturned vehicle with absolutely no expression.

Nimbu ritual goes wrong

Pradeep, his 29-year-old wife Maani Pawar, and Vikas, a showroom salesperson, were inside the vehicle at the time of the incident. PTI reported that the salesperson was explaining the car’s features when the incident happened.

Since the couple intended to perform the nimbu ritual by slowly rolling the car over a lemon placed under the tyre. However, Pawar accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, resulting in the SUV crashing through the glass and onto the pavement.
