When Mark Zuckerberg first touched down in Hawaii in 2014, he brought more than just island dreams; he came with a vision and a chequebook. That vision began with the purchase of 700 acres on the lush north shore of Kauai for a reported $100 million. But what started as a massive real estate move soon turned into something far more ambitious.

How did Zuckerberg buy 2300 acres of Hawaii island?

Over the past decade, Zuckerberg’s land holdings on the island have quietly grown, acre by acre into a sprawling private retreat that now spans more than 2,300 acres. The estate, known as Koʻolau Ranch, is no ordinary tropical hideaway. Nestled between rugged mountaintops and the pristine Pacific coastline, it has become one of the most talked-about private compounds in the world.

As per a recent report by LuxuryLaunches, the Meta CEO’s estate now rivals Kauai’s entire annual public infrastructure budget in sheer value. Complete with custom-built structures, deep security measures, and panoramic views that stretch from rainforest to reef, the property is emblematic of the billionaire’s desire to craft a world apart far from the data centres and boardrooms of Silicon Valley.

‘The old world is dead’

The internet had some conspiracy theories to share. A user wrote, “Remembering a time when rich people built Colleges, wings of hospitals, art museums centers for culture to enhance society and lead us into the future. This crop led by the gospel of Rupert Murdoch is greedy and cares very little about the world around them even less about the people. They don’t want them smart and cultured they want them stupid so they don’t notice they are being grifted and gouged for every last dime.I guess the only karma I can think of is that one day no one will remember them when they are gone.”

Another added, “Im not defending Zuck, especially not his bunker  but he does in fact have a hospital in San Francisco with his name on it. Apparently he and his wife donated 75 million dollars to it. I have a lot of issues with Meta- moral, political, philosophical issues, but thanks for the hospital, I guess? Marc Benioff, the Salesforce billionaire, donated 100 million to make the Benioff Children’s Hospital also in San Francisco. Of all the billionaires I think I dislike Benioff the least, he seems more willing to pay taxes than the others. ”

A netizen questioned, “What’s stopping what remains of the Hawaiian government from just nationalizing the bunker and taking it outright? What’s stopping some of the people that previously worked on the bunker system from coming back with a mob and sabotaging/infiltrating the facility? What’s stops whatever enforcer group Zuckerburg brings with him from just shooting him and his family and taking the bunker for themselves? What happens if the angry mob decides that instead of breaking in, they’re gonna seal all the entrances and just bury him and his family/cronies alive?.”
