Tech Layoffs: ClearTax has laid off 25 per cent of its employees, with freshers being among the most impacted, as part of a major restructuring move. As per several “OpenToWork” and “LaidOff” posts on LinkedIn, the software engineers were laid off on August 1, just two months after being hired in June.

25% of the workforce was laid off

One of the laid-off employees, Anoop Singh, a 2025 graduate from IIT Guwahati, shared a post he “never thought he would have to” on LinkedIn. Singh, who joined the company in June this year as a software engineer, expressed that it feels “profoundly unfair” – partly because he didn’t get a “real chance to prove his long-term value”.

“This week, my role as a Software Engineer at Clear (ClearTax) came to an unexpected and abrupt end—only two months after I had joined,” Singh wrote. He added, “I was part of a company-wide restructuring where approximately 25% of the workforce was laid off, a decision that unfortunately impacted all recently onboarded freshers like myself.”

He expressed that the news has been “difficult to process”. “It’s difficult to process having the rug pulled out from under you right at the start of your career,” he continued.

Singh clarified that he was not seeking “sympathy” but was instead hoping for “support and connections”. He shared a list of his skills and qualifications, adding that he is seeing this “as an unexpected detour, not a dead end”.

‘This setback doesn’t define me’

Another impacted employee, Harshit Swarnkar, also shared a heartfelt post on LinkedIn with hashtags like “LaidOff” and “OpenToWork”.

“I was informed that my Software Engineer role at ClearTax is being revoked after two months of joining, due to difficult business decisions as part of a larger company-wide layoff,” a part of his LinkedIn post read.

Swarnkar noted that he had joined the company in June with “strong enthusiasm” and a “drive to contribute”. However, the company’s “unexpected” decision has left him “disheartened”. “I view this as a temporary setback and remain motivated to continue learning, growing, and contributing meaningfully wherever I go next.”

He ended his post with the words: “This setback doesn’t define me — it fuels my determination to grow and contribute wherever I go next.”

‘I began my role in June…’

Rahul Kumar, yet another affected software engineer, also got placed on the first day of his college placements just like Singh. “I began my role on 2nd June 2025, but due to internal restructuring, I was laid off on 1st August 2025,” Kumar wrote on LinkedIn.

He added, “I’m open to both backend and full-stack opportunities and am eager to contribute to a fast-paced, product-driven team.”

Dhruv Mangroliya, another IIT graduate impacted by the layoffs, shared that he, too, had been placed through campus hiring. As per his own admission, he was “excited to learn” and “contribute” to the company’s growth. However, he was among those unlucky ones who were let go on the first day of August.

“I’m choosing to see this as a chance to grow, reflect, and find a team where I can make an even bigger impact,” he wrote in his LinkedIn post, adding that he is actively seeking full-time SDE roles.

‘I’m also victim of company-wide layoffs’

Raman Pal, who is from IIT Guwahati, described himself as a victim of the company-wide layoffs. While he admitted the news was “disappointing”, he sees it as a “brief pause” rather than a “full stop”.

“I’m staying focused, optimistic, and ready for new opportunities to learn and grow. I’m now actively seeking software engineering roles,” he added.

‘Seeking SDE roles’

Soojal Singh from IIT BHU was also among those who were hired in June 2025 and laid off two months later on August 1. “I’m sharing this update in hopes it reaches someone who can help. I was impacted by a company-wide layoff at ClearTax, just two months into my role as a Software Engineer,” he wrote on LinkedIn. He added that all newly hired freshers were affected by the company’s broader business decisions.

He also mentioned that he has been actively looking for full-time roles and shared his skillset on LinkedIn in hopes of connecting with potential employers.

All the fresh hires, who were abruptly asked to go, have taken to LinkedIn to share their resumes, contact information, and skill sets. Each of them was hired for Software Development Engineer (SDE) roles, and all were affected by the sudden round of layoffs.

ClearTax, which initially began as a tax-filing platform in India, rebranded as “Clear” in 2021 and expanded its offerings to include a wider range of financial products.
