If you thought you had seen it all at Indian weddings — from couples making entry on bikes to 3D invites — think again. A Kerala wedding has gone viral after the bride’s father turned into a walking Paytm QR code, inviting guests to send their blessings (and gifts) digitally.
The bride’s father became an overnight sensation after a video showed him proudly wearing a Paytm QR code badge on his shirt pocket. Instead of the usual exchange of envelopes, guests whip out their phones, scan the code and make instant transfers.
The short clip, which has gone viral on social media, opens with a vibrant wedding scene. But as the camera pans to the smiling father welcoming attendees, one detail steals the show — the QR code stuck like a medal of modern convenience on his shirt pocket.

Netizens couldn’t get enough. “Digital India level: Shaadi edition,” joked one user, while another quipped, “No more cash, only scan-and-sanskaars!”
Booming wedding economy of India
The trend, however quirky, fits right into India’s booming wedding economy. According to the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), the country is set to host 46 lakh weddings between November 1 and December 14, generating a massive Rs 6.5 lakh crore in business. Delhi alone will account for Rs 1.8 lakh crore from nearly 5 lakh weddings.
India’s wedding spend is rising faster and in the last three years, the numbers tell the story. Rs 3.75 lakh crore were spent in 2022, Rs 4.74 lakh crore in 2023 and Rs 5.9 lakh crore across 48 lakh weddings in 2024. Clearly, the business of “happily ever after” has never been more profitable.
