For many, owning a car is the ultimate dream, but for John Alukkas, it is about owning the best, and he has just added a new feather to his cap.
The Kerala-based billionaire and the CEO of Jos Alukkas, the renowned jewellery retail group, has expanded his luxury car collection with India’s first all-electric roadster, the MG Cyberster, which is an EV sports car.
All about the MG Cyberster
MG Cyberster is not a typical sports car. It is a stunning fusion of classic design and modern electric vehicle (EV) technology, a perfect fit for an automobile enthusiast like Alukkas.
The car is packed with 510 horsepower and a torque of 725 Nm, the Cyberster is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds, making it one of the fastest electric roadsters in India.
Its futuristic look is enhanced by butterfly doors, a sleek convertible roof, and 20-inch wheels.
It is equipped with a 77 kWh battery, it offers a claimed 580 km range (around 400 km in real-world conditions), making it not only a high-performance car but also a practical one for daily use.
Inside, the car boasts a triple-screen setup, ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), premium audio, and a luxurious driving experience.
Cyberster comes in four striking colour options: Nuclear Yellow with Black Roof, Flare Red with Black Roof, Andes Grey with Red Roof, and Modern Beige with Red Roof, adding a personal touch to its already distinctive appearance.
With prices starting at ₹75 lakh (ex-showroom) and deliveries set to begin in August 2025, the Cyberster is already making waves in India’s electric vehicle market.
John Alukkas’ love for cars
John Alukkas’ love for automobiles is no secret. He has long been known for his exceptional taste in luxury cars, and the addition of the MG Cyberster is just the latest in a long list of luxury vehicles.
His impressive collection already includes a Lamborghini Huracán, a Porsche 911 for daily drives, and even a Mahindra Thar 3-door and Mahindra BE6 electric SUV.
Each car in his garage has its own story, and his journey with cars dates back to childhood.
In an exclusive interview with OnManorama, Alukkas shared that his first major car experience was with the Toyota Sera. “The arrival of the Toyota Sera was a big moment for me,” he recalled.
“I spent several days with it. No other car excited me like the Sera did. Vehicles have always been a passion for me, from childhood till today, they still stir me,” he told OnManorama.
Alukkas’ passion for cars did not stop there. His driving journey began with a Premier Padmini, a car he learnt to drive in when vehicles were still a rarity in Kerala.
“The arrival of a Premier Padmini at home was a huge celebration for me. After I learned to drive, a man on a scooter hit the car, and my driving came to a halt for some time. But I kept cleaning and washing the cars,” he explained to OnManorama.
But perhaps one of his most emotional connections with a car was his first personal purchase which is a Maruti Esteem. “It was a dream come true,” he told OnManorama.
“I did a lot of modifications on it and even participated in the Popular Rally. Unfortunately, it was written off after an accident during the rally, but that car holds a lot of memories for me,” he added to OnManorama.
