A video of an Indian woman in Canada has gone viral on social media for all the reasons that many find hard to believe. The woman was reportedly seen “begging” at a railway platform but was carrying a Prada sling bag. Yes, you read that right, and we are not exaggerating.

Many on the Internet have described the act as a “pathetic” one. “Fake beggars,” joined another.

A third wondered, “She looks physically fit, so why was she begging at the railway station instead of earning money through work?”

Some even defended her, saying that she could just be sitting instead of “begging”.

Before we share some more reactions here, let us take a look at the video.

What does the viral video show?

“Indian lady spotted begging at a Canadian station,” read the caption to the video shared on X (formerly known as Twitter).

The now-viral video opens to show a woman sitting on the floor with a cardboard and a Prada sling bag. As the video goes on, she notices someone filming her and quickly covers her face with the cardboard. When the recording continues, she stands up and walks away. The clip ends with an overhead sign showing “Vaughan,” a city in Canada.

Based on the footage alone, it’s impossible to confirm whether the woman was genuinely begging or simply sitting on the floor at the station.

How did social media users react?

“All Indian women should be deported from foreign countries…,” read one strong comment under the video.

Another added, “I don’t think it’s wrong, but we don’t know what she’s going through.”

“Begging is illegal in Canada, though the term ‘panhandling’ is used…,” a third said.

“Many people leave the country thinking it’ll be easier outside, etc., but the reality is that yes… The Competition might be less, but you’re also missing the security net of your house, parents and relatives. Competition has also increased quite a lot when compared to 10-15 years ago. Now finding a part-time job is a struggle,” read yet another comment.

Some even think that it is all staged and that she did it all for some social media likes. “Maybe she did this for Reels,” said one Internet user.
