A video widely circulating on social media shows a late-night confrontation between an Indian immigrant driver and a Toronto police officer. The driver was arrested for reckless speeding and stunt driving, offences listed under Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act. Police said his dangerous behaviour on the road posed a serious risk to public safety.

During the stop, the officer told the man clearly why he was being charged. “An excessive amount of speed is the reason why you’re stopped. You got arrested at night for stunt driving. And you’ve been charged for stunt driving. And your passengers can say whatever they want, but we watched it happen,” the officer explained.

Heated exchange on camera

The driver recorded the encounter on his phone, questioning the officer’s authority and accusing him of racism. He even mocked the officer’s salary while boasting about the taxes he pays.

“What’s your name and badge number?” the immigrant asked. The officer calmly replied, “It’s all recorded there. It’s right here. It’s all in the document.”

The man said, “That’s my right to ask you. I’m paying the taxes. I am paying taxes more than you.”

Despite the heated words, the officer stayed composed, repeating that the stop was due to reckless driving, not race.

Allegations of racism

In the video, the driver is seen saying that he was stopped only because of his expensive car and his race. The officer denied the claims, stressing that the decision was based only on his speeding and stunts.

When the man questioned why another speeding car wasn’t pulled over, the officer explained that his actions created the bigger danger and required immediate attention.

How did netizens react?

The video has sparked a wave of online reactions, dividing opinion. Some praised the officer’s restraint, with one comment noting, “I never understand why people bother cops who are just doing their job. If I am pulled over for speeding, I would just take the ticket and call it a day.”

Others criticised the driver’s conduct, saying, “Thank you, Nate, for your tireless work in spreading hate. Because of course, Canadian-borns never speed, never stunt, never drink and drive, only Indian immigrants do, right?”.

Adding to that, the user wrote, “Let’s keep singling out immigrants as the root of every problem while pretending no Canadian ever breaks the law. This is exactly how division and scapegoating spread. Appreciate your contribution to that”.
