A 44-year-old man from Thailand has reportedly died after consuming beer for an entire month due to an emotional breakdown caused by his divorce. The man, identified as Thaweesak Namwongsa, was found unconscious in his bedroom by his teenage son and was later declared dead by emergency services.
The incident took place in the Ban Chang district of Rayong province. According to the media reports, Namwongsa refused to eat food since his divorce was finalised. He only consumed beer for continuosuly for several weeks, however his 16-year-old son repeated efforts to feed him hot meals every day.
Son says tried to get him to eat food but fair
As per the reports, his son stated that, “I cooked meals for myself daily and tried to get my father to eat with me. But he just wouldn’t eat. He kept drinking beer and nothing else.”
When the boy returned from school he immediately called for emergency assistance after he found his father unconscious and suffering a seizure. The Siam Rayong Foundation also confirmed that they had received a distress call from a residence in the district but said Namwongsa had already passed away by the time they arrived.
What authorities have to say?
Paramedics when arrived described the scene as more than 100 empty bottles found in a small room with a narrow lane for Namwongsa to move around.
An emergency reponder said, “There were bottles everywhere — on the floor, by the bed, even in the corners, It was hard to step inside.” Photographs taken at the scene revealed similar scenario of bottles occupying nearly every inch of the floor.Authorities believe Namwongsa’s severe depression following his divorce likely led to his refusal to eat and his heavy reliance on alcohol. While the exact cause of death is pending an autopsy, police suspect excessive alcohol consumption was a critical factor.
