The residents across Delhi-NCR witnessed something unusual early on Saturday leading to multiple social media posts and questions. Several fire streaks slightly illuminated the night sky, puzzling residents as to what it could be. Many assumed it to be a meteor shower or space debris in Earth’s orbit.

The incident is said to have occurred at around 1:20 am, with streaks shining amidst the dark clouds. The bright streaks were reportedly visible from multiple cities. However, no official statement has been received so far on the phenomena, which many described as a “once in a lifetime” event.

Users took to social media to share the videos and pictures of the unusual lightning streaks, which many called beautiful.

Meteor shower of space debris?

The netizens began researching as to what the bright light could be. Many said it was definitely a meteor shower, while some said it could be a space debris of something that entered Earth’s surface.

“Just witnessed this incredible fire streak in the night sky… Looks like a meteor or maybe part of a rocket burning up in the atmosphere ‘s own light show from my rooftop. Did anyone else spot it too?” a user wrote on X.

“Meteor Showers over Sector 77, Gurgaon at 1:25 AM. It was a bright streak of light… Extremely beautiful and fortunate to watch,” said another.

“New Delhi witnessed a spectacular celestial event on Friday night when bright debris lit up the skies, leaving residents in awe and sparking a wave of excitement online,” a post on X read.

An internet user explained in detail the exact time when the incident took place, “I was coming a while ago from my office with one of my colleague and around 1:25 am we saw a meteor shower above delhi sky , near bhikaji kama place , we stopped the scooty and started recording this, not sure if it’s a meteor shower or something else , and we can’t find in news.”

Grok says the streak could be Chinese rocket debris

A user, while sharing the video of the shining fragments in a row, tagged AI bot of X, Grok and asked if it was a bolide. To this, the AI bot said the bright streak could be from the debris of a Chinese CZ-3B rocket, reentering the atmosphere.

“It looks like the bright streak over New Delhi was likely space debris from a Chinese CZ-3B rocket body reentering the atmosphere, based on predictions and video characteristics like slow speed and fragmentation. Some experts call it a bolide, but evidence leans toward debris. Official confirmation may come soon,” it said.

Many said it was a bolide – a type of large, bright meteor that often explodes upon atmospheric entry, and the phenomenon is called a fireball.
