The Coldplay viral ‘kiss cam’ incident
Byron was publicly caught canoodling with Kristin Cabot, the company’s former chief people officer, during a Coldplay “Music of the Spheres World Tour” show at Gillette Stadium on July 16. The jumbotron captured the cosy moment, forcing Byron and Cabot to duck out of view as Chris Martin jokingly remarked on the awkward moment. “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy,” the band’s frontman said.
The video went viral on social media, leading to an internal investigation by Astronomer. Byron resigned the next day, while Cabot stepped down less than a week later.
Coldplay ‘kiss cam’ scandal aftermath
While neither Cabot nor Byron ever addressed the incident publicly, Cabot filed for divorce from her husband, Andrew, on August 13. Byron and his wife, Megan, have not yet filed for divorce in their hometown of Massachusetts. The couple has two sons. Megan has largely remained silent about the scandal but removed her social media profiles and reverted to her maiden name, Kerrigan. Weeks ago, she reportedly left their multi-million-dollar Northborough home for the four-bedroom mansion in Maine.
The development comes just days after sources close to Byron and Cabot pushed the “friendzone” narrative to address the mess. Contrary to online rumours suggesting an affair, a source close to Cabot claimed the two shared only a “great friendship” and an excellent working relationship.
The insider acknowledged the awkwardness of hugging one’s boss at a concert but insisted there was no romantic involvement. “There was no affair,” they stated. “But the scandal, the downfall, the loss of the job, all of that is unfair.” They added that Cabot received around 900 threatening messages in the first three days after the video went viral.
A source even told The Times that Cabot’s husband, Andrew, was present at the same concert, attending a separate date. The couple had reportedly been living apart for several weeks before the incident and maintained an amicable relationship.
