Rajiv Chawla, Founder and Chairman of Jairaj Group of Industries, believes people often look at The Camellias and think it is only about wealth and comfort. According to him, the truth is very different. While appearing on podcast Wala, Chawala explained that almost everyone living there has reached this stage after years of hard work, long hours, setbacks and struggles that most outsiders will never know about.
So when comedians and social media users crack jokes about The Camellias, the residents do not take it personally. They know exactly how much effort it took to build the lives they now enjoy.
‘The real story behind the Camellias’
In the Instagram caption, Chawala wrote, “THE Camellias, India’s most meme-able address. Let’s be honest, if there’s one place stand-up comedians love roasting, it’s The Camellias. ‘Even the laundry guy has a LinkedIn profile.’ ‘Parking hi Super Car rally lagti hai,’ ‘Delivery boy bhi entry pe MBA lagta hai,’ and of course, memes. So many memes. Kids here don’t play ‘House, they play Startup Acquisition Exit. But here’s the plot twist.”
Chawala added, “Behind every joke, behind every punchline, behind every meme-worthy pool and marble lobby, lives a community of absolute achievers. People who didn’t inherit comfort, they earned it. Founders, Unicorn builders, self made entrepreneurs, creators of jobs, industries, innovations and impact. People who have tasted failure, rejection, stress, sleepless nights, EMI nightmares and still got up the next morning and said, Let’s try again’.”
The Camellias in Gurugram is often called one of India’s most exclusive addresses. It is home to billionaires, top business families, and leading startup founders. Because the apartments here are so expensive, the society has also become a favourite topic for jokes on social media.
‘A community of achievers’
Chawala, appearing on the podcast, explained that every home has its own story of ambition, struggle, and growth. While outsiders might see luxury and wealth, the residents know how much effort went into reaching this stage. For them, The Camellias is not just a fancy address. it is a daily reminder that success comes from persistent effort and discipline.
According to him, the people living there inspire each other. Being surrounded by achievers creates a motivating environment where everyone pushes themselves to aim higher. Even with the social media jokes and memes, residents do not mind because they know the value of hard work and perseverance. “The people next door are the kind of people who go to the gym with you, discuss ideas, innovate, and create jobs. Almost every person around you is a unicorn or an achiever. It’s a community that deserves to be appreciated,” he added.
Why Camellias has become the ultimate dream home
The Camellias is often described as a place where life naturally brings people of a similar mindset together. For many, one of the biggest attractions is the chance to live among others who understand their lifestyle, their challenges and their pace of life. Deals are sometimes discussed during a game of poker, and casual conversations turn into investments inside the salon.
Another reason why this project boomed in the market, Gurugram has become a city full of CEOs, business owners and professionals who want to live close to their offices. For years, commuting from Delhi to Gurugram meant wasting hours stuck in traffic. Moving to The Camellias allowed them to live minutes away from their workplaces without compromising on privacy or comfort. Ultra-luxury homes are limited, and DLF launches such projects only after long gaps.
From 2000 to 2024, only three such luxury complexes, Aralias, Magnolias and Camellias, have been put up for sale. Spread across 17.5 acres, The Camellias is often described as a place where every single day feels like living in a 7-star hotel.
