After being delisted stand- Up comedian Kunal Kamra has reached out to BookMyShow.com to either revoke his delisting or provide him his audience data. Karma was delisted by the online booking platform after his controversial show sparked widespread violence and criticism by the Maharashtra government.
In his post Kamra wrote an open letter to Book My Show he tacitly criticized them for delisting him at the government’s behest. ‘I understand that you need to maintain a cordial relationship with the state, and I know that Mumbai is a major hub for live entertainment. Without the state’s cooperation, iconic shows like Coldplay and Guns N’ Roses wouldn’t be possible,’ he wrote.
He highlighted the exclusive right an artist holds over his content and how the website’s decision has prevented him from accessing his audience data. “By not allowing artists to list their shows through their own websites, you ve effectively prevented me from accessing the audience I’ve performed for from 2017 to 2025.”
In a purely business exchange between an artist and the website he stated, “No matter how big or small a comedian is, we are all compelled to spend between 6,000 to 10,000 rupees a day on advertising to reach our own audience. This cost is an additional burden that we, as artists, must bear.
Finally, he requested, “please ensure that you hand over the contact information of the audiences you’ve collected from my solo shows so that I can continue living my life with dignity and work towards a fair livelihood”
Karma is currently under investigation for potential defamation over a comedy skit targeting Maharashtra deputy CM Eknath Shinde. His controversial skit on Indian politicians, especially Shinde led to backlash from Shiv Sena party members, resulting in vandalism at the studio where the performance was held.
