An act of compassion by a Louisiana sheriff’s deputy has gone viral across the internet after he stopped a speeding driver and discovered that he was on his way to a funeral. The driver told the officer that he was on his way to a funeral and was having a rough day. On top of it, he was struggling with his tie. Instead of simply issuing a ticket, Deputy Dustin Byers helped the driver tie his necktie.

The story gained widespread attention after being shared on Instagram by Pubity. The post recounted the incident, “During a recent traffic stop in St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana, Deputy Dustin Byers pulled over a man for speeding and learned he was on his way to a funeral and struggling to tie his tie. Instead of just issuing a ticket, the deputy stepped in to help, tying the man’s tie on the side of the road.”

A photograph shared by the sheriff’s office, showing Deputy Byers meticulously tying the man’s tie on the roadside, quickly went viral. The image was captioned, “REMINDER: Compassion still exists, even on the side of the road.”

While the driver did receive a speeding citation, the deputy’s profound act of kindness resonated deeply with online users. Many praised his gesture as “a simple but powerful” display of empathy. Comments flooded in, with one user writing, “A great example of compassion in action.” Another remarked, “Thank God for all our first responders and their heart to help and do good.” A third user eloquently stated, “People like the deputy make me believe kindness still exists in today’s world. It costs nothing to be kind. You never know what kind of situation another person is going through. So always choose kindness.”
