In a disheartening incident that has stirred outrage online, an IIT Madras alumnus named Sanjeed revealed he was denied housing in Bengaluru due to his religious identity. The incident came to light after he shared his experience on X (formerly Twitter), where his post quickly went viral, drawing widespread support.
Initially, on May 24, Sanjeed posted optimistically about his house hunt in the city: “Getting married soon. Looking for a 2BHK around Indiranagar/Koramangala. Please DM if you have any leads/brokers/tips.” Just two days later, he followed up with a shocking update: “Saw around 4 places with brokers. At the end of the day broker says, ‘Sorry, owners not okay with Muslims, due to Pak issues.’ What is this BS, man?”
so many folks reached out with contact and help. thank you so much 🫂

The tweet has since garnered nearly 50,000 views, with hundreds of users expressing sympathy and outrage. Several people suggested more inclusive neighbourhoods such as Shivaji Nagar, Queens Road, and Cox Town, while others extended personal offers of temporary housing or emotional support.
“Sorry you had to face this. This is not acceptable at all,” wrote one user, while another said, “Hi Bhai…aap humaare saath reh sakte ho until you figure out.” Another user wrote, “I am so sorry, Sanjeed, that you are facing this issue. This is not acceptable at all. Here are some area suggestions considering the situation you are encountering: Queens Road, Shivaji Nagar, Kora Second Block, Richmond, Cox Town. I have stayed at Queens and Kora Second Block. My landlords were/are Muslims as well. You should not have any problems here.”
