Cognizant CEO Ravi Kumar S has reiterated his commitment to the company’s future, downplaying the ongoing legal battle with Infosys. In an interview with Economic Times, Kumar stated that his focus remains on “doing what is right for this firm” and described the lawsuit as a mere distraction.

The legal dispute between Infosys and Cognizant continues to escalate, with both companies exchanging sharp accusations. Cognizant has accused Infosys of being “caught red-handed” stealing trade secrets related to its healthcare software TriZetto. Meanwhile, Infosys has named Ravi Kumar in its counter lawsuit, citing his previous role as President of Infosys before his departure in October 2022. Kumar took over as Cognizant CEO in January 2023, replacing Brian Humphries.

AI and Growth Strategy
Despite the legal tensions, Kumar emphasized Cognizant’s shift from a “stabilization phase” to “organic, sequential growth” over the past two years. He pointed to key achievements such as margin expansion, strategic AI investments, and the acquisition of Belcan. The company has focused on a three-vector AI approach, integrating AI into enterprise landscapes and utilizing AI-powered coding tools, with machines now generating 20% of Cognizant’s code—a figure expected to grow further.

Kumar acknowledged macroeconomic challenges like high inflation and interest rates but remained optimistic about AI-driven industry transformation. He noted that AI is expanding IT budgets, shifting the traditional focus beyond cost-cutting. Cognizant has capitalized on this by securing 29 deals worth over $100 million in the past year.

Addressing concerns about leadership turnover, Kumar dismissed speculation of instability, stating that many leadership changes were part of natural attrition and strategic restructuring. He highlighted the return of former Cognizant employees and key hires across departments, denying allegations of poaching talent from competitors.

“We’ve attracted top talent, including returning former employees,” Kumar asserted, emphasizing that the leadership team remains stable.

With a strong AI-driven roadmap and a focus on long-term growth, Cognizant aims to navigate industry challenges while distancing itself from legal distractions with Infosys.
