Anand Mahindra’s Monday motivation comes from Pollachi, Tamil Nadu where an 82 year old is proving that age is no bar to strength. Meet Kittammal V, a grandmother who is competing in powerlifting championships and showing that determination-not years- sets the limits. Her story is going viral and Anand is praising her for lifting not just weights but spirits too.
He tweeted, “At 82, a woman is lifting not just weights but our spirits., winning powerlifting championships and defying every cliché about age. She’s a reminder that it’s never too late (or too early) to live with vigour, to dream boldly and to pursue your goals. Age or conventional wisdom don’t set the limits. Your willpower does. Kittammal V. from Pollachi is my #MondayMotivation”
Competing Against Women Half Her Age
Kittammal recently made headlines at the Strong Man of South India contest in Kuniyamuthur where she competed against 17 women, all under 30. She showed remarkable strength and technique and secured 5th place in the open women’s category by deadlifting 50 kg. Her inspiration comes from her grandsons Rohith and Rithik who motivated her to take up powerlifting.
She says strength training wasn’t new to her. For decades she carried 25 kg rice bags and fetched several pots of water daily, making physical strength a part of her daily life. With guidance from her grandsons she shifted from household chores to structured gym training and mastered deadlifting in just a month.
Diet and Lifestyle Behind Her Strength
Kittammal also credits her lifelong diet for keeping her energetic and strong. She has been eating traditional and nutritious foods like finger millet porridge, pearl millet porridge, eggs, moringa soup and boiled vegetables for decades. She says these simple yet powerful foods have given her stamina and kept her active even at 82.
The internet is already celebrating her achievement. Users are calling her motivating and empowering, praising her spirit and determination. Many are saying her journey proves age is just a number when fueled by willpower and dreams.
