Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has sparked rumors about his future with the franchise following a cryptic Instagram post shared after RR’s final match of the IPL 2025 season. The Royals ended their campaign with a convincing win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK), but failed to qualify for the playoffs, finishing ninth with 10 points from 14 matches.

In his initial post, Jaiswal wrote: ‘Thank you, Rajasthan Royals, for everything. Not the season we hoped for, but continue to be grateful for our journey together. On to the next challenge and whatever the future brings YBJ 64.’ The post, which many interpreted as a farewell note, prompted immediate speculation on social media regarding his potential departure from the franchise he has represented for six seasons.

Supporters quickly flooded the comments section, with remarks such as ‘Welcome to KKR Captain’ and ‘Come to KKR,’ suggesting a possible shift to the Kolkata Knight Riders and even a leadership role for the left-handed opener.

Shortly after the reactions, Jaiswal edited the caption of the post. He added IN after ‘on to the next challenge’—interpreted by many as a reference to his upcoming national team duties—and changed ‘grateful for the journey’ to ‘continue to be grateful,’ a revision seen as an effort to clarify his intent and distance the post from franchise-related speculation.

In spite of this clarification, the original phrase has still been the subject of debate among fans and experts regarding Jaiswal’s future with Rajasthan Royals.

Jaiswal was the leading run scorer for RR in the season, scoring 559 runs at 159 strikes. His performance was consistent despite the franchise having an internal crisis. News of a feud between captain Sanju Samson and head coach Rahul Dravid dominated the narrative of the season, though Dravid later dismissed the reports. The team’s appointment of Riyan Parag as interim captain for times when Samson was not available received mixed reactions, with many feeling Jaiswal would have been a better choice.

Off the field, Jaiswal had earlier sought a No Objection Certificate from the Mumbai Cricket Association to shift to Goa for domestic cricket, reportedly to explore leadership roles. However, he reversed the decision weeks later and stayed with Mumbai.

Looking forward, Jaiswal’s next assignment is with the Indian national team on the England tour. Following the retirements of senior batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Jaiswal remains the only confirmed top-order batter in the Test setup. He is scheduled to join India A for a first-class match against the England Lions as part of the preparation.

There has been no confirmation from Jaiswal himself or the Rajasthan Royals about his availability for the following season’s IPL. But the timing and wording of his post suggests that he left the door open to further speculation as the 2026 season comes closer.
