Sri Lanka achieved a commanding innings and 154-run victory over New Zealand in the second Test at Galle on Sunday (September 29), completing a 2-0 series sweep and boosting their position in the ICC World Test Championship standings.

With this win, Sri Lanka has recorded five victories in nine matches during the WTC 2023-25 cycle, raising their points percentage (PCT) from 50% to 55.55%.

Conversely, New Zealand’s defeat caused them to drop from fourth to seventh place, falling behind England, Bangladesh, and South Africa. Pakistan and West Indies occupy the last two positions.

At the top of the standings, two-time finalists India and defending champions Australia lead with PCTs of 71.67% and 62.50%, respectively.

India faces the possibility of seeing their PCT decline to 68.18% if they cannot secure a win against Bangladesh in their upcoming second Test in Kanpur.

Looking ahead, Sri Lanka is scheduled to tour South Africa for two Tests before hosting Australia in January. Meanwhile, the BlackCaps will face India in a three-match Test series starting October 16 in Bengaluru.
