In a pivotal encounter in IPL 2024, Delhi Capitals secured a crucial 19-run victory over Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday, keeping their playoff hopes alive. The win places DC in contention for a playoff spot, while LSG still has an extra game in hand to improve their standing in the league.
Chasing a target of 209, LSG faltered, finishing at 189/9 in their allotted 20 overs, with Ishant Sharma being the standout performer for DC, claiming three wickets. Nicholas Pooran was the top scorer for LSG, smashing a rapid 61 off just 27 balls, while Arshad Khan provided valuable support with an unbeaten fifty, scoring 58 runs from 33 deliveries.
In their innings, the Delhi Capitals posted a formidable total of 208/4 in their allocated 20 overs. Despite an early setback with Jake Fraser-McGurk’s dismissal for a duck, Abishek Porel’s brisk innings of 58 runs and Tristan Stubbs’ unbeaten 57-run knock propelled Delhi to set a daunting target of 209 runs for Lucknow.
Naveen-ul-Haq made crucial breakthroughs for Lucknow, claiming two wickets during Delhi’s innings, but his efforts were not sufficient to contain Delhi’s batting onslaught. Despite a spirited fightback from Lucknow’s batsmen, they ultimately fell short of the target set by Delhi.
