Chase Master Virat Kohli in one of his most remarkable achievements, has become the first Indian player to score 3,000 runs across all ICC white-ball tournaments. The star batsman of the Indian cricket team achieved this historic milestone during the ICC Cricket World Cup match against New Zealand in Dharamshala.
During the match, Kohli showcased his batting prowess by scoring 95 runs off 104 balls. This included an impressive tally of eight fours and two sixes. While Kohli showcased a stellar inning, he fell short of securing his 49th One-Day International (ODI) century, which would have allowed him to equal Sachin Tendulkar’s record.
Fourth-highest run-scorer in ICC World Cup history
In the ICC Cricket World Cup, Kohli has featured in 31 matches and has amassed 1,384 runs, boasting an outstanding average of 55.36. His World Cup journey comprises three centuries and nine fifties, with his highest score being 107. As a result, he stands as the fourth-highest run-scorer in the tournament’s history and the second-highest run-scorer for India.
Kohli’s record in ICC Champions Trophy
Moving on to the ICC Champions Trophy, Kohli has accumulated 529 runs in 13 matches, maintaining an extraordinary average of 88.16, with five fifties in 12 innings. His best score in this tournament is an unbeaten 96. Within the Champions Trophy’s annals, he occupies the 11th position in terms of highest run-scorers and is the fourth-highest run-getter for India.
Exceptional record in ICC T20 World Cup
In the ICC T20 World Cup, Kohli’s record is even more exceptional. He has participated in 27 matches, accumulating 1,141 runs at an average of 81.50. In these matches, he has notched up 14 fifties in 25 innings, with a highest score of 89*.
Across 71 ICC white-ball events, Kohli has accumulated 3,054 runs at an average of 67.86, which includes three centuries and 28 fifties.
Standing alongside him is the iconic West Indian cricketer, Chris Gayle, renowned for his white-ball heroics. Gayle has amassed 1,186 runs in 35 matches in the ICC Cricket World Cup, with two centuries and six fifties.
Kohli overtakes Sanath Jayasuriya
In an additional feat, Kohli also surpassed Sri Lankan legend Sanath Jayasuriya (13,430 runs) to become the fourth-highest run-scorer in One-Day Internationals (ODIs). Across 286 ODIs, he has scored 13,437 runs at an astonishing average of 58.16, with a strike rate of 93.69. His ODI career includes a tally of 48 centuries and 69 fifties, with the highest score being 183. Notably, Sachin Tendulkar stands as the leading run-scorer in ODIs with 18,426 runs and the record for the most centuries by any player with 49 centuries.
