Vinesh Phogat Disqualification Rules: Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat faced a disheartening setback at the Paris Olympics as she was disqualified from the final of the 50kg freestyle wrestling event for exceeding the weight limit on the day of the gold medal match. This disqualification means that Phogat will not receive any medal and will be ranked last in the competition, as per official wrestling rules.

Weigh-In Rules and Regulations

According to the official rules in wrestling, the weigh-in for all competitions is conducted each morning of the concerned weight category. The weigh-in and the medical control last for 30 minutes. On the second morning, only the wrestlers participating in the repechages and finals are required to come for the weigh-in, which lasts for 15 minutes.

No wrestler is accepted at the weigh-in without undergoing a medical examination on the first morning. Wrestlers must appear at the medical examination and the weigh-in with their license and accreditation. The only uniform allowed for the weigh-in is the singlet, and no weight tolerance is allowed for the singlet. Wrestlers must be in perfect physical condition, with their fingernails cut very short.

Throughout the weigh-in period, wrestlers have the right to get on the scale as many times as they wish. Referees responsible for the weigh-in must ensure all wrestlers are of the weight corresponding to their category and fulfill all requirements. Referees will refuse to weigh a wrestler who is not dressed correctly.

The referees receive the results of the draw and are allowed to control only the athletes on this list. If an athlete does not attend or fails the weigh-in, they are eliminated from the competition and ranked last, without rank. If an athlete is injured during the first day, they do not have to attend the second weigh-in and will keep their results.
