Shobhaa De is under attack again on Twitter. This time for praising Indian Olympians. However, De’s comment on PV Sindhu, who stormed into the badminton final of Rio Olympics 2016 yesterday, failed to impress the tweeple. De posted a number of tweets on Sindhu. In one of the tweets she said, “Keep watching! A silver lining to our India cloud coming up soon in Rio!!!”. In another, she wondered if PV Sindhu is the “Silver Princess”. After Sindhu’s victory over her Japanese rival, she wondered again, if there will be gold after the silver.

De had raised a storm a few days ago, tweeting that Indian Olympians were interested only in clicking selfies, wasting money, opportunity and returning empty handed.  Her statements drew the ire not just of trolls but of people from all walks of society including legendary cricketers, Bollywood stars and politicians. Not only this, even personalities like former India cricketer Virendra Sehwag and Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan started taking dig at De as soon as India secured her first medal at this edition of the Olympics, courtesy Haryana wrestler Sakshi Malik.

However, tweeple didn’t find De’s tweets in good taste, with someone even suggesting, “You’ve no right to celebrate after your selfie comment. Stay out it.” Another said, “Just shut up, she (Sindhu) can win gold as well.” People who trolled De over her comments were not just regular, anonymous trolls but also identifiable users who couldn’t digest the De’s sarcasm.
