Right before the eliminator match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, RCB had to cancel their solo practice session and the pre-match press conference due to a security threat against Virat Kohli.

Scheduled to practice at the Gujarat College Ground in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, May 21, RCB decided to cancel the session without issuing an official statement. Both teams also cancelled the pre-match press conference, which is customary before a crucial match.

According to a report by Anandabazar Patrika, Gujarat Police officials indicated that the cancellations were due to a security threat against Kohli. Four men were reportedly arrested at Ahmedabad airport on suspicion of terrorist activities. A search of the suspects’ hideout revealed weapons, suspicious texts, and videos, suggesting a potential threat to Kohli.

Upon receiving this information, RCB chose to cancel their practice session, prioritizing Kohli’s safety. The Rajasthan Royals, however, proceeded with their scheduled net session.

“Virat Kohli learned about the arrests after arriving in Ahmedabad. He is a national treasure, and his security is our utmost priority,” said Vijay Singh Jwala, a police officer, according to the report.

“RCB did not want to take a risk. They informed us that there would be no practice session. Rajasthan Royals were also informed about the development, but they had no problems going ahead with their practice,” he added.

However, there are reports that the Gujarat Cricket Association has ruled out any threat. According to media reports, GCA said that the practice session was cancelled due to ‘heatwave’.
