The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will announce its decision on wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s appeal regarding her disqualification from the Olympic finals at 9.30 PM (6 PM Paris time) on Saturday, reported PTI.

The CAS ad-hoc division, which handles disputes during the Olympic Games, concluded its hearing on Friday. This followed Vinesh Phogat’s appeal against her disqualification for being 100 grams over the weight limit on the morning of her final bout against Sarah Ann Hildebrandt from the USA.

A statement from CAS confirmed that the decision deadline has been extended to 6 PM Paris time on August 10, 2024, in accordance with Article 18 of the CAS Arbitration Rules for the Olympic Games. This extension is to ensure a thorough review before the conclusion of the Paris Games on Sunday.

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) expressed optimism about a favorable outcome for Vinesh. “We remain hopeful for a positive resolution regarding Vinesh Phogat’s appeal against her weigh-in failure,” the IOA stated.

In the final match, Vinesh was substituted by Cuban wrestler Yusneylis Guzman Lopez, who had lost to Vinesh in the semifinals. Vinesh’s appeal requests that she be awarded a joint silver medal with Lopez, arguing that she was within the weight limit during her preliminary bouts.

Vinesh Phogat’s case was represented by prominent legal experts Harish Salve and Vidushpat Singhania.
