Virat Kohli makes history as the first batsman worldwide to achieve 50 ODI centuries, surpassing the iconic record of 49 centuries set by Sachin Tendulkar. Kohli has now broken the long-standing record of his compatriot, Sachin Tendulkar, becoming the all-time leading century scorer in ODIs. 

Kohli today reached the remarkable milestone of his 50th ODI century at the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup semi-final match against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, solidifying his status as the foremost century scorer in the history of the game.

The experienced Indian batsman steered the Indian innings on a sluggish Mumbai pitch and reached his century in 106 balls.

Virat Kohli has also surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the highest run tally in a single World Cup. Kohli has now exceeded the 673 runs that Tendulkar achieved in the 2003 World Cup.

Virat Kohli’s 49th ODI century

Virat Kohli marked his 35th birthday by scoring his 49th ODI century, showcasing his prowess once more against South Africa’s formidable bowling lineup. Despite the Proteas employing six different bowlers in an attempt to dismiss Kohli, none were successful. 

The Indian stalwart delivered another exceptional performance at the renowned Eden Gardens ground, leveling with Tendulkar and playing a crucial role in his team’s impressive total of 326/5.

Kohli received excellent support from Shreyas Iyer during the middle overs, maintaining control as India secured another victory, ensuring they concluded the group stage at the top of the standings.
