IPL 2025 “film’s” trailer dropped on May 29 when RCB defeated PBKS by 8 wickets at the New PCA stadium in Punjab. The grand finale or the film’s much-awaited release came on June 3. Just as hinted in the trailer, Rajat Patidar-led RCB defeated Punjab Kings led by Shreyas Iyer to script history. Soon, social media and Bengaluru streets started “bleeding red”, and the franchise owner couldn’t hold back his emotions and took to Twitter (now X) to share his joy. However, it was short-lived as people started trolling him left, right and centre.

“RCB are IPL Champions finally after 18 years. Superb campaign right through the 2025 tournament,” wrote fugitive Vijay Mallya, who founded the franchise in 2008. He signed Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle for the IPL team.

He then congratulated the “well-balanced” team for “playing bold” and thanked the coach and support staff for their efforts. “Many congratulations! Ee sala cup namde!” he further expressed.

But for Mallya, one post wasn’t enough. Not when he had dreamt of this moment for 18 long years. “When I founded RCB, it was my dream that the IPL trophy should come to Bengaluru,” he began his another social media post. However, the Internet was quick enough to remind him of his loan scams, adding that it is now his turn to “fulfil SBI’s dream”.

He continued, “I had the privilege of picking the legendary King Kohli as a youngster, and it is remarkable that he has stayed with RCB for 18 years. I also had the honour of picking Chris Gayle, the Universe Boss and Mr 360 AB DeVillers, who remain an indelible part of RCB history.” AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle were both present to witness the historic moment.

Closing on an emotional note, Mallya thanked the team and fans who never gave up through the years of heartbreak. “Finally, the IPL trophy arrives in Bengaluru. Congratulations and thanks again to all who made my dream come true. RCB fans are the very best, and they deserve the IPL trophy. Ee Sala Cup Bengaluru baruthe!”

And, social media users soon rallied in the comments section of his post, asking him to come to join the party in Bengaluru and also to make “SBI’s dream come true”.

A parody account linked to SBI reacted to his “dream come true” post, commenting, “Sir, come to India. We will celebrate together.” Many, including Harsh Goenka assumed that this was SBI trolling Vijay Mallya. But turns out it was not.

“It’s your turn to make SBI’s dream come true,” said one RCB fan in response to Vijay Mallya’s social media post.

Another added, “Ghar laut aao Mallya ji,” before saying, “It’s time to make the SBI dream come true.”

“Mallya Boss Bani Namma Bengaluru [Mallya has become Bengaluru’s pride] and let’s make SBI Bank’s dream come true, arrange a party for them and let’s dance outside SBI Bank. Make our dreams also come true, Mallya Anna,” expressed a third.

A fourth posted, “Great! Now, it’s your turn to make a dream come true for SBI. Let’s come back and celebrate this royal victory with the loyal fans of RCB. Mallya Sa’ab, we all will lift you on our shoulders and dance together outside the SBI office.”

While congratulating Punjab Kings for their “impressive” win over Mumbai Indians, Mallya had predicted that a “first-time champion will emerge” this year. At the time, it seemed like wishful thinking. But last night, that prophecy came true and RCB finally rose from years of heartbreak to lift their maiden IPL trophy.
