The Gujarat Titans, former champions of the Indian Premier League, have confirmed the retention of Rashid Khan, Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, Rahul Tewatia, and Sharukh Khan ahead of the 2024 mega auction.
Making their debut in 2022, the Titans clinched the IPL trophy in their first season, thanks in large part to a strong core that included Hardik Pandya and Shubman Gill. They followed this success with a runner-up finish in 2023, narrowly losing in a dramatic final. However, heading into the 2024 season, the franchise faced a significant setback by parting ways with captain Hardik Pandya, who moved to the Mumbai Indians, while Shubman Gill stepped up as the new captain.
The absence of Hardik has impacted the team’s overall balance, resulting in a disappointing eighth-place finish after two successful seasons. Additionally, the Titans missed key bowler Mohammed Shami for the entire season due to injury.
As the IPL gears up for a new mega auction cycle spanning three years starting with IPL 2025, player retentions are more crucial than ever. Teams can retain a maximum of six players within a budget of Rs 120 crore for both retention and the auction.
