Champions Trophy final 2025: India’s star batter Virat Kohli suffered an injury scare during the final practice session ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy final against New Zealand. The title clash is set to take place on Sunday, March 9, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
According to a report by Geo News, Kohli was struck near his knee while facing a pacer in the nets. The 36-year-old was immediately attended to by the Indian cricket team’s physio staff, who applied a spray and wrapped the injured area with a bandage. Despite the blow, Kohli remained on the field, closely observing the team’s practice while reassuring the support staff about his condition.
The Indian team management later confirmed that Kohli’s injury is not serious and that he is expected to be fit for the final against New Zealand.
India Face Tough New Zealand Challenge in ICC Events
India will be wary of New Zealand’s formidable record in ICC tournaments. The Black Caps hold a 10-6 head-to-head lead over India in ICC events across all formats. More importantly, New Zealand have dominated India in knockout matches, winning three out of four encounters.
Meanwhile, some experts have suggested that India may have an advantage due to their extended stay in Dubai. However, given that New Zealand have already played multiple matches in similar conditions, the claim has been widely debated.
Spin to Play Key Role in Dubai Finale
India is expected to field a combination of four spinners and two pacers for the final. If the championship match is played on the same pitch that hosted their high-voltage group-stage clash against Pakistan, India’s spin attack could be a major threat to the Kiwis.
On the other hand, New Zealand’s spinners have also proven their effectiveness, having dismantled India in a Test series last year. The Black Caps will be eager to replicate that performance as they chase their first ICC ODI title in 25 years.
With both teams aiming for glory, the stage is set for an electrifying finale in Dubai.
