The Indian team opened its U-19 Asia Cup 2025 campaign with a historic victory. Led by Ayush Mhatre, India’s ‘boys in blue’ posted a humongous total of 433/6 in its tournament opener against UAE at ICC Academy Ground on Friday.
The score constructed by this group of young Indians today marks the highest total ever posted by an Indian U-19 team in ODIs. The present Indian team powered by hitters like Suryavanshi and Vihaan Malhotra broke past the former Indian U-19 team’s score of 423 against Scotland in 2004 to earn this achievement.
Highlights from India’s innings
Teenage sensation and India’s new found power opener, Vaibhav Suryavanshi struck a fantabulous 171 off just 90 balls while Aaron George (69) and Vihaan Malhotra (69) contributed with crucial half-centuries to post the mammoth score.
Players like Vedant Trivedi (38), Abhigyan Kundu (32) and Kanishk Chouhan (28) also provided crucial runs towards the end of the game to push India to the record total.
Overall, India’s total of 433 is the third-highest score ever by a team in a men’s U19 one-day game.
The Suryvanshi storm
The youngest member of India’s U-19 team and perhaps one of the most destructive ones, Vaibhav Suryanshi batted to make records today. Opening the game against UAE, the 14-year-old Indian batter scored a record-breaking 171 off just 95 balls today, shattering the mark for the highest score by an Indian in the U19 Asia Cup.
The previous best of 130 was posted by Himanshu Rana Afghanistan in Colombo in 2016.
Bangladesh’s Soumya Sarkar holds the record for most runs in an innings in U19 Asia Cup for his outstanding 209 against Qatar in 2012.
Survanshi opened his innings with his trademark big hits and pushed the team score to triple digits rather quickly. The teenager brought up his half-century in 30 balls, his century in just 56 and 150 in 84 balls. He also launched 14 sixes, the most by any batter in the tournament’s history, going past Afghanistan’s Darwish Rasooli who struck 10 against UAE in 2017.
Suryavanshi was dismissed in the 33rd over with the score on 265/3, giving India a launchpad to score more than 400.
