India opener Abhishek Sharma has made a significant leap in the latest ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings after delivering a career-defining knock of 135 off 54 balls in the final T20 against England in Mumbai. His blistering innings propelled India to a dominant 4-1 series victory.

Abhishek’s stellar performance at the Wankhede Stadium has catapulted him 38 places to second in the ICC T20I rankings for batters, surpassing fellow Indian Tilak Varma and now trailing only Australia’s Travis Head. While Head retains the top spot, Abhishek is just 26 rating points behind.

Meanwhile, India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav holds the fifth position and remains within striking distance of Head. Among other Indian players making notable gains, Hardik Pandya climbed five spots to joint 51st, while Shivam Dube surged 38 places to 58th after strong performances in the series.

In the bowling rankings, mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy has moved up three places to second after picking up crucial wickets in the last two matches. His tally of 14 wickets in the series sees him level with England’s Adil Rashid, who dropped to third behind Akeal Hosein. India’s Ravi Bishnoi also advanced four places to sixth, having taken five wickets in the series, while left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh broke into the top 10 at ninth.

Among England’s bowlers, Saqib Mahmood jumped 28 places to 57th after claiming 3/35 in the fourth match. Mark Wood (up nine places to 60th) and Brydon Carse (up 62 spots to 66th) also made gains.

Latest ICC test rankings

In Test cricket, Australia’s Steve Smith climbed three places to fifth after his commanding 141 in the Galle Test against Sri Lanka, where Australia secured victory by an innings and 242 runs. Usman Khawaja, who was named Player of the Match for his 242-run knock, advanced six places to 11th, while debutant centurion Josh Inglis entered the rankings at 80th.

Australian bowlers also made strides, with Nathan Lyon moving to sixth with 795 rating points—just six shy of his career-best. Mitchell Starc gained two places to 12th, while Matthew Kuhnemann and Todd Murphy returned to the rankings in 54th and 66th positions, respectively.

Jasprit Bumrah, recovering from a back spasm, continues to lead the Test bowling rankings. Recently named ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year and Test Cricketer of the Year, he remains India’s highest-ranked bowler. Ravindra Jadeja is the only other Indian in the top 10, occupying ninth place.

On the batting front, India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal retained his fourth position, with England’s Joe Root leading the rankings, followed by Harry Brook and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson.
