Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli has been admitted to a private hospital in Maharashtra’s Thane after complaining of chest pain.

The 52-year-old is currently under observation in the intensive care unit (ICU). According to the hospital, initial tests revealed he is suffering from severely high blood pressure and a urinary infection, according to The Indian Express.

Kambli was admitted to a hospital in Bhiwandi’s Kalher area, Thane district, on Saturday. A fan, who also owns the hospital, brought Kambli in for treatment. While his condition is reported to be stable, the exact cause of his hospitalisation remains unclear, as PTI reported.

Kambli, who represented India in 17 Tests and 104 ODIs between 1993 and 2000, had recently attended the inauguration of a memorial for his legendary coach, Ramakant Achrekar, at Shivaji Park in Mumbai.

At the event, where his long-time friend Sachin Tendulkar was also present, Kambli appeared frail. He has reportedly been dealing with health challenges for some time.
