Defending champions England have unveiled their squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup, along with a provisional lineup for the forthcoming T20I series against Pakistan. The team is preparing for the series and the World Cup which is scheduled to kick off on Tuesday, April 30th.
Jofra Archer, known for his speedy deliveries, is back in action after recovering from a long injury break. He’s now part of the 15-player group chosen for the ICC T20 World Cup. His comeback is expected to add strength to England’s bowling attack and raise team spirits.
Archer returns to England’s bowling attack
The 29-year-old hasn’t played for England in a year, but his comeback for the tournament in June, held in the United States and Caribbean, will be a big lift for the current champions.
The Barbados-born fast bowler brought new energy to the team when he switched nationality to play for England before the 2019 Cricket World Cup. He played a crucial part in helping England win the tournament on home soil. Later that year, he also made a significant impact during the Ashes series.
In the announced squad, Lancashire’s left-arm spinning all-rounder Tom Hartley stands out as the only player who hasn’t previously played in an ICC World Cup. Meanwhile, Surrey batsman Will Jacks is another fresh face, yet to make his debut appearance in the tournament.
Woakes and Malan miss out, Jordan secures spot
However, all-rounder Chris Woakes, who played a crucial role in England’s T20 and ODI World Cup victories, did not secure a spot in the squad. Additionally, batsman Dawid Malan has also been left out.
Fast bowler Chris Jordan, who featured in the final against Pakistan in 2022, has also made the cut for the squad.
