Yuting Huang and Lihao Sheng won the inaugural gold medal at the Paris Olympics 2024, making China the first nation to stand on the podium. In the gold medal match on Saturday at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre, the Chinese duo defeated Republic of Korea’s Keum Jih-yeon-Park Ha-jun 16-12.
China and Korea finished first and second in the qualification round earlier that day. The Chinese pair scored 632.2 to progress to the gold medal match, while the South Korean pair of Keum Jihyeon and Park Jahun finished second in qualifying with 631.4.
Meanwhile, Kazakhstan earned its first medal in Paris 2024. With this, Kazakhstan finally got an Olympic medal in shooting after 1996. Alexandre Le and Islam Satpayev, a mixed 10m rifle duo, won the first medals at Paris 2024.
India’s mixed 10m air rifle team of Ramita Jindal-Arjun Babuta and Sandeep Singh-Elavenil Valarivan did not make it to the medal rounds of their event at the Chateauroux shooting range on Saturday.
The medal competitions kicked off the Paris Olympics on Saturday, following a rainy but grand opening ceremony.
