India created history at Edgbaston on Sunday by winning their first-ever Test match at the venue, breaking a 58-year-long drought. With a massive 336-run win over England, the visitors not only dominated the game but also levelled the five-match series 1-1. Star batter Virat Kohli celebrated the big moment on social media, praising the team’s performance and giving special shout-outs to Shubman Gill for his fearless leadership.

Shubman Gill was named Player of the Match after making history with the second-highest total runs ever scored in a single Test match. He made 269 runs in the first innings and added another 161 in the second, finishing with a massive total of 430 runs. As captain, Gill led the team from the front and celebrated his first win as India’s Test skipper. After the victory, Virat Kohli praised Gill for his strong leadership and for bringing a fearless attitude to the team.

“Great victory for India at Edgbaston. Fearless and kept pushing England to the wall. Brilliantly led by Shubhman with the bat and in the field and impactful performances from everyone. Special mention to Siraj and Akash for the way they bowled on this pitch,” wrote Kohli on his X account.

Along with Gill, Akash Deep also had an outstanding Test match. He took his first-ever five-wicket haul and a ten-wicket haul in Test cricket. The young fast bowler stepped in for Jasprit Bumrah, who was rested for the match, and made the most of the opportunity. The 22-year-old picked up 4 wickets for 88 runs in the first innings and 6 for 99 in the second, playing a key role in India’s historic win.

Akash also achieved the best bowling figures by an Indian at Edgbaston and became only the second Indian, after Chetan Sharma, to take 10 wickets at the venue. He was well supported by Mohammed Siraj, who took 7 wickets for 127 runs in the match. The duo rose to the challenge in Bumrah’s absence and proved the strength of India’s bowling attack.
