Want to have chilled water in this scorching heat at just Re 1? Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), in an attempt to provide purified water to the passengers at the railways stations, has taken an initiative where it has set up ‘water ATMs’, at places including New Delhi railway station.
These ATMs provide 300 ml water for the cost of only Re 1. “A passenger can get 300 ml water for Re 1 (without a container), if you want a container, then the cost of water becomes Rs 2 for 300 ml,” Sandip Dutta told FE Online.
A water ATM was recently inaugurated by BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi at the New Delhi railway station. It is the 14th machine at the station.

The capacity of each machine is 50-200 litres of water per hour. IRCTC aims to put 4,500 such water ATMs across 1200 stations in the first phase, Dutta added.
Each machine will have an operator to help passengers get water by paying through cash, token or smart card, he said.
A move like this in a time when the heat wave continues to torment people, seems to be a good initiative by IRCTC to provide cheap and purified water, something good for the poor and common man.
