Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt starrer Bhoomi was released last Friday. Considering that it was the return of the iconic actor after a long jail stint it was expected to generate a lot of curiosity in the public and fans and that in turn was supposed to set the BO on fire. Sad to say, that did not happen. Bhoomi has earned just Rs 7.48 crore in its first weekend. As per well known film critic Taran Adarsh the film earned Rs 2.25 crore on the first day of its release. On Saturday and Sunday the film earned Rs 2.47 crore and Rs 2.76 crore respectively in 1,894 screens across the country.

Bhoomi is a revenge drama which centres around a father-daughter relationship. While Sanjay plays the father, Aditi Rao Hydari plays the daughter. The movie also stars television actors Sidhant Gupta and Sharad Kelkar.

"Fri 2.25 cr, Sat 2.47 cr, Sun 2.76 cr. Total: Rs 7.48 cr [1894 screens]. India biz", Taran Adarsh tweeted. However, while considering that Bhoomi is a comeback film of Sanjay Dutt after a gap of almost three years, one would have expected the movie to do really well, considering fan base the actor enjoys in India, but the script has failed the actor’s caliber. During the weekdays the Sanjay Dutt-starrer movie may slow down further. With Judwaa 2 expected to release soon, Bhoomi’s performance may be affected further.

Speaking about Sanjay Dutt in the movie, Bhoomi director Omung Kumar was quoted as saying by Indian Express, “A new Sanjay Dutt that we have never seen before as a performer. He is playing his age and the role is highly performance oriented. I offered an actor a role that he has never done before, something that will be marked as iconic for the next 10 years of his journey as a performer.”The film was released on September 22.
