Maharashtra HSC Result 2015: Girl who lost both arms in rail accident gets 63 pct in HSC exam </br> A year after she lost both arms in a railway accident, 17-year-old Monica More today scored an impressive 63 per cent in the the 12th standard (HSC) examination held in Maharashtra. Monica More, a commerce student, had appeared for the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) HSC exams held in March this year with assistance of a writer. Amid attending calls from well wishers, Monica said, "I am very happy and thankful to Aishwarya, an 11th class student, who wrote the exam papers for me." Aishwarya wrote the papers at the exam centre Saraswati Vidyamandir in Ghatkopar. Monica said she plans to pursue a degree in commerce. (PTI) (27/05/2015)

Centre wants to take country towards dictatorship, says Arvind Kejriwal </br> Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today made a blistering attack on the Centre, alleging that its notification conferring more powers on the Lt Governor was part of an "experiment" to take the country towards "dictatorship" and asserted that it was ready for a long fight on the issue. In his address at the Delhi Assembly, Kejriwal lambasted Lt Governor Najeeb Jung who he said was "dancing to the tune" of the Centre and "deliberately" trying to create obstacles for the AAP government. "Whatever is happening in Delhi is dangerous. This is the Delhi experiment of the BJP-led Centre. One by one, this experiment would be implemented in every non-BJP state. They want to take the country towards dictatorship. I appeal to all non-BJP chief ministers to come together and unite on this issue," he said. (PTI) (27/05/2015)

AFSPA withdrawn from Tripura </br> The Tripura government today decide to lift Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) from the state, where the controversial law was in effect for the last 18 years to curb insurgency. Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, who is also the Home Minister of the state said this decision was taken in the meeting of the council of ministers during the day. "We have reviewed the situation of the disturbed areas of the state after every six months and also discussed the issue with the state police and other security forces working in the state. "They suggested that there is no requirement of the Act now as the insurgency problem has largely been contained. We would soon issue gazette notification in this regard," Sarkar told reporters. This Act was imposed in the state on February 16, 1997 following spurt of violence by the ultras. (PTI)(27/05/2015)

Sunny Leone appears before Thane police </br> Bollywood actress Sunny Leone, against whom a case of allegedly "promoting vulgarity" through the social media was registered, today recorded her statement before police. After a complaint against Leone by an activist of the Hindu Janjagriti Samiti (HJS) was lodged with the Dombivili police, the case was transferred to the Thane police Cyber cell which had issued her summons. She appeared before the police, accompanied by her counsel and relatives, the official said. The actress was present at the Thane police headquarters for about an hour during which curious onlookers and fans milled around the spot to catch a glimpse of her, the police official said. Hawkers burn Babul Supriyo's effigy, set fire to BJP office </br> Hawkers burnt an effigy of Union Minister Babul Supriyo and set fire to a party office here today protesting against authorities disallowing them from plying their business at Asansol railway station. Police said about 70 hawkers shouting slogans against Supriyo took out a procession and set fire to the effigy of the Union Minister of State for Urban Development outside a BJP office in the town. They burnt party flags and set fire to the party office by throwing the burning effigy at it. The hawkers had been disallowed from doing business at the station for the past several months. BJP distances from Rijiju's beef remarks: </br> Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today distanced itself from Union minister Kiren Rijiju's reported comment on beef eating, saying the issue involves "great religious sentiments" and should not be dragged into the political domain. Taking on his ministerial colleague Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi over his remark that those who cannot live without eating beef should go to Pakistan or some Arab country, Rijiju had reportedly said in Mizoram's capital Aizwal, "I eat beef, I am from Arunachal Pradesh, can somebody stop me? So let us not be touchy about somebody's practices." Asked about the row, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said, "As far as beef ban is concerned, it is a matter of great religious sentiments across the length and breadth of the country. No relief from searing heat wave</br> A blazing sun was beating down on Delhiites who are unlikely to get any relief from the searing heat wave today. The minimum temperature was, however, recorded three notches below the season's average at 24.8 degrees Celsius. The humidity in air was 38 per cent at 8.30 AM. The MeT department has predicted clear skies for the rest of the day. "The skies will be mainly clear. The maximum temperature is expected to hover at 44 degrees," said the weatherman. Yesterday, the maximum temperature in the city had settled at 45 degrees Celsius while the minimum was recorded at 28 degrees Celsius. (Reuters)(27/05/2015)

Rahul Gandhi accuses Modi govt of 'lying' to the nation over land bill: Hitting out at Narendra Modi government over the land acquisition bill, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today termed as the 'biggest lie' that non-availablity of land was a major impediment for undertaking development projects. "The government is linking the land to 'Make-in-India' programme," he said addressing a huge rally of Youth Congress workers at Kozhikode beach here. Gandhi alleged that the NDA government 'due to some reason' was in a hurry to bring in the Land Acquisition bill by making drastic changes in the legislation brought by the previous UPA Government. He also attacked the government's claim of eliminating corruption in the last one year, saying that the main institutions that can expose corruption– RTI and Central Vigilance Commission, were 'headless'. Our leaders do not wear mask: Sena on Fadnavis' poll remarks </br> Shiv Sena today hit back at Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis over his remarks that going solo in the Assembly polls brought out BJP's true strength, saying Sena leaders "do not wear mask or makeup". Though Sena welcomed Fadnavis' stand on fighting the next Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) election together, it asked the chief minister to come clean on what led to the Sena-BJP alliance breakup ahead of the assembly polls. "Fadnavis said that going alone in Assembly election brought out the true strength of BJP. We do not wish to take potshots at him because we too fought hard to ensure defeat of Congress and NCP. Girls outshine boys in the Maharashtra HSC 2015 exam results: </br> The 12th standard HSC examination held in Maharashtra in March this year has registered an overall pass percentage of 91.26, with girls having an edge over boys in the results announced today. An estimated 12.37 lakh students appeared for the examination in which out of nine regional divisions of the Maharashtra Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, Konkan topped the list with passing percentage of 95.68 with Nasik division being at bottom at 88.13 per cent. While 88.80 per cent boys were successful, girls outnumbered them with a passing percentage of 94.29, Gangadhar Mahmane, chairman of the board told reporters here. (PTI) (27/05/2015)
