Sonia Gandhi, the Congress Parliamentary Party chief, inaugurated the party’s new headquarters at 9A, Kotla Road in New Delhi on Wednesday, marking a significant moment in the history of the grand old party, which had been based at 24, Akbar Road for the past 47 years. The headquarters is named after the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi — in a tribute to her legacy and contributions to the nation and the party.
During the event, party leaders raised the party flag at the new headquarters, followed by the singing of ‘Vande Mataram’ and the national anthem. Sonia Gandhi then officially inaugurated the building and invited Kharge to join her in cutting the ribbon at the entrance. Interestingly, the new headquarters, Indira Bhawan, is located just under a kilometre from the BJP’s national headquarters on Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg in New Delhi. Despite being on the same road, the Congress office is located on Kotla Marg, not Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg.
