Subrata Roy's Sahara Housingfina logs Rs 28.67 lakh profit: Sahara Housingfina Corporation Ltd (SHCL) today reported a fall in its net profit at Rs 28.67 lakh during last quarter of the fiscal ended March 2016. The company had registered a net profit of Rs 32.41 lakh in the January-March quarter of 2014-15. Total income during the fourth quarter of 2015-16 also fell to Rs 2.62 crore from Rs 3.57 crore in the same period of the preceding fiscal 2014-15, it said in a BSE filing. For entire fiscal ended March 2016, company's net profit fell to Rs 1.88 crore, as against Rs 2.19 crore in the preceding fiscal. Total income during the year also decreased to Rs 12.78 crore, compared with an earning of Rs 17.37 crore in 2014-15. SHCL is engaged in the business of housing finance. (Reuters)

Snapdeal's Freecharge fastest growing digital payments app, says Nielsen According to a Nielsen study, Snapdeal's digital payments application, Freecharge is the fastest growing in its category in the country. As per data released by Nielsen Informate Smartphone Panel data, the reach of the Freecharge app grew from 17 per cent to 30 per cent in the period October 2015 to April 2016. Paytm still has the highest active reach at 40 per cent, while Freecharge stood at 30 per cent, followed by Mobiqwik at 20 per cent. The other digital payments applications include My Airtel, My Idea, My Vodafone and Oxigen wallet. (Official Website)

Sony 'X' series smartphones, Xperia X, Xperia XA launched in India: Sony India today unveiled its new 'X' series smartphones in India with two devices — Xperia X (Rs 48,990) and Xperia XA (Rs 20,990). Pre-booking of Xperia X can be done through all authorised Sony mobile dealers and online exclusively on Amazon. Sony Xperia X features 5-inch display, is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB expandable storage, 23MP rear and 13MP front camera and 2,620 mAh battery. Sony Xperia XA, on the other hand, is powered by MediaTek Helio P10 processor and comes with 2GB RAM, 16GB expandable storage option, 13MP rear and 8MP front camera and 2,300 mAh battery. Soon, get Gangajal through ecommerce via Dept of Post: Receiving Ganga water by post could be a reality soon as the government endeavours to tap the e-commerce platform to bring the holy water at the doorsteps. "I used to get several request that with vast network of post can we get Ganga water. I have directed Department of Posts to utilise e-commerce platform and make arrangement for providing pure Gangajal from Haridwar, Rishikesh to people. They have assured that they will take pro-active step to address cultural needs," Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said while sharing details of the NDA government's achievements. He said parcel revenue of post offices has increased by 80 per cent during his regime by delivering e-commerce products. "If postman can deliver, mobile phones, sarees, jewellery, apparels then why not Ganga water," Prasad said. (Reuters)

5. Wipro employees salary hike at 9.5%in 2016; Infosys pay hike 6-12 pct, TCS 8-12 pct: Wipro said it will hike salaries of its employees in the country by an average 9.5 per cent this fiscal. "Wipro Ltd will announce a salary increase for eligible employees, effective June 1, 2016. The average salary hike will be 9.5 per cent for offshore employees and 2 per cent for onsite employees, respectively," said a statement. At the end of March 31, 2016, the company had 1,72,912 employees on its payrolls. Cross-city rival Infosys has given wage hikes of 6-12 per cent to its employees in India and of about 2 per cent to onsite workers, apart from offering equity to incentivise top performers. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has also given 8-12 per cent hike to employees this year. (Reuters)

6. Now, pay no tax for PF withdrawals of up to Rs 50,000: No tax would be deducted at source for PF withdrawals of up to Rs 50,000 from June 1. The government has notified raising the threshold limit of PF withdrawal for deduction of tax (TDS) from existing Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000. The provision will come into effect from June 1, 2016, providing relief to subscribers of retirement fund body EPFO. The government had introduced the proposal to deduct TDS on PF withdrawals in order to discourage premature withdrawal and to promote long term savings. According to existing provisions, TDS is deducted at the rate of 10 per cent provided PAN is submitted. TDS will be deducted at the rate of 10 per cent provided PAN is submitted. (Reuters)

No Rs 30 service charge on Indian Railways train ticket booking at PRS counters: Now a passenger will not be charged extra for using credit or debit card for booking Idnian Railways train ticket at the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters as the Railways has decided to do away with Rs 30 service charge beginning next month. The decision of no service charge at PRS counters will be effective from June 1, according to a senior Railway Ministry official. He said no service charge shall be levied on purchase of journey tickets at PRS counters through credit/debit cards. Because of the extra charge, many passengers prefer giving cash for tickets bought at PRS counters to save those extra money on service charge. (Image: Indian Railways)

9. DTC hikes Noida bus service fares by up to 33 per cent: Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has increased fare of its non-AC bus services for Noida by up to 33 per cent. As per the new fare structure, passenger travelling in DTC's non-AC buses for up to 3 km will now have to pay Rs 5, excluding MCD toll tax of Rs 2 per passenger, against Rs 4. According to the DTC, MCD toll tax has been reduced from Rs 4 to Rs 2 per passenger following the UPSRTC's move in this regard. "Fare for travelling distance of up to 5 km will be charged Rs 8, which was Rs 6 earlier. Similarly, passengers will have to buy a ticket of Rs 20 for travelling over the distance of 15 km against earlier Rs 15," an official said. (PTI)

PM Narendra Modi asks Indian Railways to raise 'ambition level': Prime Minister Narendra Modi today asked the railways to speed up redevelopment of stations and substantially raise its "level of ambition" in this regard. PM stressed the need for decongesting critical stretches of highways and adoption of latest technologies for toll collection – it was also noted that the capital investment in 2015-16 was over Rs 93,000 crore, which represents a massive increase of 65 per cent over the previous year, and is the highest-ever.(PTI)
