As 4G services are launched in India, smartphone usage is on the rise. According to the Vserv Smartphone User Persona Report, conducted by Nielsen-Informate Mobile Insights, there are 160 million smartphone users in India today—there could be around 234 million by 2017. They spend on an average 169 minutes daily on their device. The majority of smartphone users—63%—are under 25 years. The study has identified six categories of smartphone users. App Junkies account for 24% of the user base and download the maximum apps. Social stars (20%) spend two hours daily on social networking sites. Conversationalists (16%) use it for talking. Entertainment buffs (15%) are the biggest consumers of games and music. Utilitarians (15%) use both voice and data while Dabblers (10%) use their smartphones infreqently.
