As the eight edition of the Indian Premier League enters its nail-biting stages, fans from Delhi are booking their flights to Kolkata to cheer on their favourite teams for the finals. Skyscanner, one of the leading global travel search engine, recorded a 70 per cent increase in flight searches from Delhi to Kolkata from May 18-24, 2015, compared to May 11-17, 2015. The increase in domestic searches to Kolkata is expected to be triggered by Delhiites travelling to Kolkata to witness the IPL finals scheduled on May 24, 2015 at Eden Gardens.
In addition, Skyscanner commissioned a nationwide survey, revealing the habits and preferences of 1,000 IPL fans across the nation. The survey revealed that Virat Kohli has stolen the hearts of more than 50 per cent of the female respondents as the hottest cricketer this IPL season. On the other hand, AB de Villiers– the master of 360 degree batting – clinches man of the tournament with the support of a third of the respondents.
The survey also revealed that close to 40 per cent of female respondents are dissatisfied when their better halves are enjoying the action packed matches. Interestingly, close to 30 per cent of them are likely to join in and cheer for their favourite IPL team.
